Levels of Autonomy
Students aren’t grouped by age into grade levels at Compass, rather they “level up” through four Levels of Autonomy by demonstrating achievement in core academic and life skills. This ensures that students are learning what they need to learn when they are ready to learn it, not simply because of their age.
Compass students are ready for the next level when they have acquired academic skills required at any level, when their 360 Team (including student, certified teacher, family member, and outside community member) determines their readiness, and when they have earned digital badges in the appropriate Compass Competencies. Students move through these levels at their own pace. For example, an older, more mature student may “level up” more quickly than a young student, who may remain an Explorer for longer.
