Middle School Mathematics & Science
My journey in the field of education began well before I became a classroom teacher. After working in the computer industry in various roles that included the delivery of technical training, I decided to pursue a career I’d been passionate about since high school: teaching and learning. For much of my career, I worked at CSU, training Career and Technical Education instructors (such as those in welding, culinary arts, and auto mechanics) on effective classroom instruction. Over time, I became fascinated by how the brain learns and how teachers can incorporate hands-on projects to more fully engage students in the learning process. My STEM background serves as a natural foundation for this exploration as I continue seeking opportunities to utilize innovative learning methods in diverse contexts, such as environmental education. I love to find ways to incorporate the arts into classroom activities and look forward to bringing these types of lessons into my teaching practice at Compass.
Throughout my career, building meaningful relationships has always been central to my teaching philosophy. I believe in fostering teamwork while applying problem-solving skills, which are essential for both academic and personal growth. Outside of work, I enjoy music—especially dancing and singing with friends—and on a nice day, you’ll likely find me gardening or going on a nature walk.
I am excited to be part of a learning community that values authentic, experiential learning and provides countless opportunities to grow intellectually while cultivating lifelong learning skills.
