What Does It Mean to Be a Teacher at Compass?

Compass is looking for a teacher who is ready to collaborate across disciplines and show students that quantitative reasoning is both fun and applicable to all areas of life and learning.

Someone who is not afraid to ask students to grapple with the complexity of our world through applied mathematics will fit right into our team of design thinkers and creatives. Mathematical concepts, application, and operational fluency are all important parts of our mathematics lessons, while social-emotional intelligence is modeled and taught in every class.

You will teach two or three 70-minute mathematics classes, with different course preps. These courses are designed to support student curiosity, critical thinking, skill development, and a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

We use outstanding math curricula, including Desmos for Pre-Algebra 6–8 and Algebra 1 and Open Up Resources for Geometry and Algebra 2.

Learning at Compass

Teachers at Compass support student growth across many skill areas. You will be a role model for emotional intelligence, intellectual curiosity, and professional collaboration.

You will thrive as a learning experience designer who embeds skills such as design thinking, literacy, and numeracy into mathematics studios and Venture Projects. Compass teachers are co-learners who model curiosity, passion, and the skills needed for lifelong learning.

  • Has hobbies and passions they are eager to share with the Compass community.

  • Makes decisions based on what is best for each student, each day.

  • Holds a strong desire to make the world a better place for all its inhabitants.

  • Has strong communication and literacy skills.

  • Models and practices a growth mindset, curiosity, good humor, emotional regulation, empathy for self and others, and a sense of adventure.

  • Enjoys working collaboratively with students and colleagues in an innovative, entrepreneurial school environment.

Our Commitment to You

  • Learn through collaborative working relationships supported by weekly staff workshops and common planning time.

  • Get to know students deeply by working with them across multiple learning experiences throughout their years at Compass.

  • Collaborate with experienced teachers and design thinkers to continually improve teaching and learning.
