Learning Should Make You Feel Alive, at Compass It Does!
Kids learn best when they are engaged and there’s an element of fun in what they are doing. Whether it's through hands-on projects, real-world experiences, or game-based challenges, our staff is never in short supply of creative ways to make learning meaningful.
Earlier this year Compass teacher, Sean Sawyer, used GimKit, a game-based learning platform that turns quizzes and review activities into interactive multiplayer games, in his ecology class. This particular game had a twist inspired by Among Us, students became crew members aboard a spaceship, while a few secret saboteurs worked behind the scenes to cause trouble. To earn points, investigate suspects, and uncover the imposters, students first had to answer questions about ecosystems, food webs, energy transfer, populations, and other ecology concepts.
The classroom was alive with strategy, accusations, alliances, and plenty of "Wait... I think it's YOU!" moments.
This is one of the many ways Compass students learn by doing. When learning feels like solving a mystery, competing in a game, and working together as a team, engagement comes naturally.
