Self-Directed Learning

We support our students in becoming courageous learners. All students at Compass must complete self-designed inquiries and independent venture projects that demonstrate our core competencies.

Students must participate in at least one leadership experience during their time at Compass and have many opportunities to join other staff and students in existing programs or design their own.

Academic Rigor

Students at Compass demonstrate academic competency in core subject areas including English, math, humanities, science, and world language as well as logging time and reflections in health and wellness and the arts. All students complete a college-level academic research paper on a topic of their choice in their junior or senior year.

What makes Compass different and the learning deeper is that we focus on helping students develop the skills of collaboration, critical thinking, accountability, consequential thinking, written/visual communication, speech, self and social awareness, emotional literacy, and design thinking.

Community Engagement

Compass is located in midtown, adjacent to the Spring Creek MAX bus stop. This allows for easy access to the rest of our campus—the city of Fort Collins and the campus of Colorado State University. Classes frequently get out of the building to work with and learn from community partners, and professionals from around the city and country are hosted in our classrooms on a regular basis.

Futures Planning

All students participate in self-assessments, college and career exploration starting in 6th-grade. In high school, they create a post-secondary plan (including a financial plan), and present a final portfolio of their learning and professional skills.
