It's always thrilling to see the diversity of learning happening at Compass. We have seven Ventures running this quarter. In the coming weeks, check back here to see what students are up to in these ventures. You're sure to be impressed. We are!
Epistemology II
Shamayim and her Middle School students are exploring what distinguishes justified belief from opinion in Epistemology II. They are continuing to investigate knowledge by asking the questions: How do we know? How is knowledge created? What role do communities of knowledge play in our societies? These questions (and many others!) are being investigated from both the perspective of the ‘knower’ (the individual) and through the lenses of different areas of knowledge: Ethics, Mathematics, The Arts, History, Human Sciences and Natural Sciences. The Venture is designed to help students think differently about what they’ve learned in school, to take on multiple perspectives and to develop key critical thinking skills.
Ask Sham's Epistemology students about what they learned from color wheels. Hint: Is black a color? Is white a color? How do you know?
Art and Science Venture
Katherine and her Middle and Upper School students are spending the quarter exploring the synergistic relationships that exist between the fields of art and science. Throughout history and cultures there are examples of vast rifts between the two. On the other hand, many great discoveries, innovations, and collaborations have flourished from artists and scientists working together. Students will explore the benefits of these synergistic relationships while identifying a project that they can create themselves to demonstrate these connections. Professional artists and science communication specialists are joining us to add depth, perspective, inspiration, and career pathway insights to our journey! Design thinking, art, scientific process, and other subject area content will be on full display throughout this Venture.
